Custom Remote Codes on PSP with Location Free

I purchased a Sony LF-B20 Location Free Wireless Base Station a few days ago. Overall, it works pretty well. Right now I’m at the office watching Sportscenter, streamed from my home PC to my laptop here at work. The image quality isn’t great, but it is certainly usable.

One problem I’ve run into is with regards to the remote control setup on the PSP. With the software installed on my laptop, I can change channels on my VCR. However, the VCR is not a supported device on my PSP meaning that I can not change channels via the PSP. I sent an e-mail to Sony support and I got this response from one Kavin Sather:

You can use the learning feature of the LFB20 to create a custom remote that can then be used on your PSP.  Please follow the steps below to do this.

  •
    • Create them using LFA-PC20 & LFB10 or LFB20 and configure using a PSP
      • While connected to the base station using LFA-PC20, right-click and choose “Settings”
      • Choose “Video 1” under remote settings
      • Choose “custom remote” for the make (it’s at the bottom of the list)
      • Choose a type of remote
      • Click the “Learn” button
      • Follow the on-screen steps to program the remote
      • The new remote control data file will be saved to the LocationFree RC_Data folder (a link is on the desktop)
      • Copy that file to the PSP memory stick in the following directory: MSSONYLFRC_DATA (may need to create these folders if they are not present)
      • Insert the memory stick into the PSP and go into the “remote control settings” for LocationFree
      • Choose the input you are setting up the remote for and press “X”
      • Find the manufacturer on the list and press the directional pad to the right (may be at the bottom listed as Custom)
      • Select the type of device and press the directional pad to the right twice and press “X” to save the settings

Hey I would like your help regarding the locationfree on psp. I would like to know if you have the folder structure for the psp memory stick as well as the basic file settings for use in infrastructure mode. IE. when you go to basic settings in the psp locationfree software it says Automatically performs settings for the Locationfree Player using the basic settings file of the memory stick. register the psp system with the base station.

Could you please help me locate these basic settings files? Where do you get them? do they come in the location free cd or online or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for placing this information out here. I spent hours on the phone with Sony Support getting my location free base player hooked up. They did a really good job. However, I had to figure out the remote control situation myself, which became rather frusterating. Then when I couldn’t get the PSP remote to work the same…discouraged. Your help came very timely.

I’m always shocked when the first search turns up exactly the right answer. thanks!

    for the poster above:

take the cables going into the TV and stick them into the LF unit, then run out of the LF unit to the TV

The information you posted is invaluable for getting a custom remote on the PSP. I have a Dish Network DVR where I was not able to access any of the DVR functions including pausing or resuming lie TV. This works for the LF-V30 model. Just as listed above create the folder (Root Drive letter) MSSONYLFRC_DATA, and just as listed above it the last on the list and listed as custom remote. Numerous custom remotes can be saved but they will all be listed under custom remote (you have to download the remotes from the Sony website (file lfrmc_us.lfr under file path (Root Drive letter) PSPSYSTEMLFPLAYER). Thanks again for helping in the file paths to enable custom remotes on the PSP.

p.s. this works with a moded PSP newest mod 4.01 m33.

Would someone please post the file with the codes? I have an older LF Player Basestation that doesn’t have the learning feature.
