David Bowie…

…was way more influential to music in the ’70’s (and by association, today) than I ever gave him credit for.

Meanwhile, tiny little Kraftwerk continues to show up in more and more places as an influence. David Bowie admits that he was influenced by them on his Low album which influenced countless bands (Joy Division, to name one).

This makes me think that Kraftwerk may have been the most influential band in the history of the world not named The Beatles.

  1. Kraftwerk are the godfathers of Techno and their influence still looms large. Bowie has often said that Low was influenced by early Kraftwerk and other German (“Krautrock”) pioneers like Neu,Can and Edgar Froese’ solo work. Kraftwerk always seem to get cited by people you’d think would never be into Kraftwerk. Also one of the only outfits that Bowie ever said he’d loved to have collaborated with.
